Discovering fantastic illustrators

An illustrator I discovered recently (through the amazing Brain Pickings newsletter, which always features top-notch images of all kinds to go along with its meticulously curated text) is Lisbeth Zweger.

Zwerger has done books on everything imaginable (from Aesop's fables to Alice in Wonderland) and won just about every award that can be given to an illustrator. Here are a few of my imitations of her work.  She does the most incredible work with watercolor, and every image of hers seems to have something wonderful to teach me, whether it is the way something is shaded or tinted, the gorgeous backgrounds, or the hilarious and witty depictions of animals and people.
