This is an oil color chart I did today based on the instructions in Richard Schmid's book. I'm using the colors he lists in his basic palette, and the idea is to create a variety of values for each color by adding white; subsequent charts involve color mixing, with one predominant color for each chart. These squares were created with a palette knife, which is a new tool for me, but really fun, and very different from using a brush. The paint is much thicker here, with a much more uniform consistency than when I'm using a brush. It's also much easier to keep the colors from contaminating each other than it would be with a brush. On the positive side, cleanup is really easy and no painting mediums are required. On the downside, these will take weeks to dry!
