instant art show #6

candy photo essay

Welcome to the sixth Instant Art Show! This week I’m sharing my first photography exhibition, which is inspired by my collection of little Japanese candies. I collect these because there’s something about how colorful and cheerful and shiny they are that really appeals to me visually, so I thought that sharing those qualities in a series of photographs would be a fun subject for an Instant Art Show. As a painter, I use photography extensively as a way to track ideas, document my work, and create painting references, but I also love photography in and of itself as an art form, so exploring it in this week’s show has been really fun. In this week’s video, I share how I took the pictures, and I also talk about making my own prints, which is another creative process  that I love exploring and sharing with other artists.

This week’s content has been really fun to put together, and I’ve had to learn lots of new skills as I’m creating all of these different kinds of content, as well as figuring out ways to talk about my work and share my process. I’m happy with how the photographs turned out, and I really liked being able to print and curate the photos myself. I’m planning to make smaller prints as well to bring to the Portland Audubon Wild Arts Festival later on this fall. If you’re interested in purchasing prints of any of the work in this week’s show, just send me an inquiry email through my website. And I’m looking forward to sharing the work in person during the November 3 First Friday Artwalk! See my events page for details, and just email me if you have any questions.
